Story of the Song:
See What You’ve Done to Our Flag
This anthem song is an entirely original composition, lyrics and melody, except for the first few words and melody that obviously, and by design, are taken from our national anthem.

Why the need for a tool for cohesion?

Opposition groups today, such as Indivisible, 50-50-1 and No Kings, mainly draw support from Democrats and Progressives. That’s good. But it’s not good enough.

There clearly must be a nonpartisan effort. There must be room to welcome others from across the entire political spectrum, especially conservative Republicans (who feel their party has been hijacked), as well as Independents, and others. To achieve success, the tent has to be made wider to include everyone who is upset about what has been happening. That is why tools for cohesion are necessary to help build a united front of allies who agree on the importance of one initial and clear goal: We must all push back together.

This song mentions no specific issues because how do you choose? There are so many alarming new issues added daily, even hourly, making for confusion, paralysis, fragmentation and failure. Pick any one issue and you only get lost in the noise.

This song avoids naming parties or politicians.

The song’s tone is not one of anger or outrage but rather of sadness and disappointment as to where our country is going.
It’s easy to fight anger with anger. You can’t fight sadness.

This song makes no intellectual arguments. It aims for emotions. Remember how it used to be when things were normal?

Our country was never perfect. But it was fundamentally decent and well-intended. We always knew our nation was a work in progress.

This song reclaims our flag and other symbols of our country. They belong to all of us. They do not exclusively belong to the MAGA world.

This song reminds us of the good things about our country.

Knowing it still needs work, we still want to Restore America as we remember it.

The song ends with confident optimism. With the hope that our America can be restored—the America we have known all our lives and loved. And still love.

Song Lyrics
Oh, say can you see what you’ve done to our flag
See what you’ve done to our flag
Our flag once stood for doing things right
But you can’t stop doing things wrong
See what you’ve done to our flag

Oh, say can you see what you’ve done to our flag
See what you’ve done to our flag
Once so proudly it waved ‘til dawn’s early light
Broad stripes and bright stars through the night
See what you’ve done to our flag

Our flag now is soiled, now it’s tattered and torn
Stripes once straight now are faded and worn
Stars used to shine, how divine, in times before
Our flag earned respect—Now no more
See what you’ve done to our flag

We pledge that our country’s not over and done
Americans, reunite, all as one!
Stop doing wrong! Start doing right! Listen to our song!
Restore America with help from above,
And with pride, once again, fly the flag that we love!
